Take 5, D.

Spill the beans that make me sing

For now, I am satisfied with the layout of the blog and its various sections. I reserve the right to make changes as I use this more, which I think is the route most folks go once they become accustomed to their online surroundings. So with that being said...

Do you want to read another entry in the metablogging category? Sure, we all do!

"Why blog again, in the Year Of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty-Five? Why spout at length in boring text, when there are so many other ways to hear people talk, or watch them move? Aren't these other ways simply better? Why create your own blog when there are so many social media outlets to use? Who has the patience to read anymore??"

You've just read variations on the questions I've had in my head about this project. I have searched within and without, and have yet to find answers to my satisfaction. Reading other blogs from people who started writing again has only muddled the waters for me, so there won't be a convenient answer to plug in for my own use. May as well finally answer these questions for myself, eh?

Simply put, I am blogging because I am getting dissatisfied (bored?) with the offerings given to me for online activities. Social media serves a purpose, but it's holding my attention less and less these days. There are still some elements I enjoy, and I hope I can still keep on enjoying them in spite of current events waves hands in a dramatic arc, but I don't want to be beholden to them as my only way of communicating. I am of an age where I cut my online teeth in the BBS world, though I was a newbie to that crowd when I joined up in 1997. Soon afterward, there was the world of LiveJournal, which was a vaguely social way of knitting together the E/N world into a patchwork quilt. I have no illusions that this old era of mine will come back, but let's be honest: most social media is just a fancier package for E/N blogging, so what's the difference if it's in text form like this?

I want the challenge of writing my thoughts out, without being too particular whether or not they're read by a huge audience. To be fair, I'd rather not have a huge audience, as that era passed for me when I killed off my original Twitter account in 2019. I'm fully in my IYKYK era, so I shall embrace it without reservations.

With that being said, what will you read here, Dear Reader? I can't make too many promises, but some random topics that I may cover are:

...and so much more! Or less! I don't know yet, but maybe we can learn something on this journey together.
