Where am I?
Main social media presence
As of the date posted in the footnotes, here are the online sites where I am active or semi-active:
- Mastodon (ACTIVE) remains my primary social media outlet. It's not perfect, but it's my least-worrisome text-driven service.
- Glass (ACTIVE) has moved up in my online world, to the point where I feel like sharing my profile. I made a public committment in mid-April to use Glass as my main photo-sharing site, and I've been keeping true to my word.
- Reddit (ACTIVE) is still informative and useful for me. I have spent more time reading various photography-related subreddits, thanks to my recent pickup of the Canon 35 mm rangefinder, and I often check out other subreddits thanks to Reddit’s daily email digest.
- Facebook (SEMI-ACTIVE) has seen an uptick in usage, largely through the Messenger app as I have used it for communicating with people. As far as actual Facebook itself, I will dip in for about 5-10 minutes, then bail.
- Instagram (SEMI-ACTIVE) has mainly been for viewing Stories and copying over some photos I had already posted on Glass. I rarely check out user Timelines anymore, as that often ate up valuable time. I'm still avoiding Reels, though, and if Instagram ever becomes Reels-forward with photos buried in the mix, I'll step aside for good.
Other social media presence
I should mention the following for sake of completion:
- Bluesky (DEACTIVATED) I put my account here on ice as of today. It’s too much for me. I may revisit this decision
at the end of February.likely before the 12th of Never.
Not a social media presence
Can I be reached outside of a social media service? Certainly!
- Email is always an option!
- RSS will get my latest blog posts into the RSS reader of your choice. If you are on a Mac or iDevice, I recommend News Explorer or NetNewsWire.
- Signal is available by request.
I also want to put in a plug for omg.lol, as it is a site offering a collection of web services that are pretty awesome, including a digital asset proven service that abides by the Popeye philosophy. You can host a website, many of which look better than mine, but you also have access to various social media services within omg.lol, including a status page, a Now page, and a photo-sharing page. I use these services with varying frequencies, but there are many other services to check out as well. Subscribing costs $20/year, so you’re getting a lot for your money. I’m not receiving any compensation for plugging omg.lol here, so this boosting is purely done out of love for the site.
