Week Notes, 2025-03-16
The Bear Blog ecosystem has a Discovery feed that shows off recent or trending posts. One style of post I’ve seen over and over again is a weekly recap, like a journal entry to sum up the week that’s passed. As someone trying to get back into a regular writing routine, this type of post is just what I need to re-establish my skills. With that in mind, here's my first of hopefully many weekly recaps.
(Note: the format of entries was largely inspired by the notes written by both Kerri Krueger and Notes by JCProbably.)
Weekly Features from March 10th - 16th:
🦠 I spent the majority of the week recovering from a sudden bout of flu, which hit me on March 6. It wasn't until Wednesday 03-12 that I felt "normal" again, prompting me to celebrate with a tasty Side Project stout.
📲 On Thursday 03-13, I took over the weekly on-call rotation for the first time since I was hired. By sheer coincidence, this shift almost lines up with my start date of 2024-03-18. As of this writing, I have received two calls, one of which was solved by the user later on, with the other involving a Security team's intervention.
🛳️ My in-laws are finishing their month-long boat cruise of Hawaii, Kiribati, and French Polynesia. Unfortunately, they are no longer on the boat, but instead are landbound at a hospital on the Marquesas Islands. Along the way to French Polynesia, a round of flu spread through the ship, affecting both in-laws. During her recovery, my mother-in-law developed breathing issues that were beyond what the ship's doctor could handle. She, and similarly afflicted passengers, were sent to a field hospital on the Marquesas. As I write this, plans are underway to escort her and my father-in-law to a larger hospital in Tahiti. Once she gets the all-clear to fly, the in-laws will fly home sometime this upcoming week.

💫 Creating:
- Finally making progress on various blog pages and sections.
- Photographing geese at a nearby pond during a brief warm spell.
🗄Organizing:
- Electronic cables and accessories, as I needed something to occupy time that isn't waiting for the on-call phone to ring.
- Car washing and cleaning out for the first time in 2025. Naturally, the next day, the dust storm from Kansas and Oklahoma made its way towards me, negating most of the exterior cleaning.
🧪 Testing:
- Typora and MarkEdit for writing out blog posts in Markdown on my Mac. I'm currently using Typora now to write this up. Still undecided if I should pick one or the other.
- AgBr and Unpro on my iPhone. AgBr will apply various black-and-white film emulations, whereas Unpro will strip out any of Apple's post-processing treatments from your photos.
- Foqos on my iPhone. It worked well a couple weeks ago, but now doesn't block many apps. More testing to see if it's the app, the iOS update, or something else.
