Take 5, D.

Week Notes, 2025-06-08

Weekly Features from June 2nd - June 8th:

πŸ“· In the previous update, I had mentioned loading my first roll of 35mm black-and-white film into the Canon camera. That roll has been sent off for development, and that also means I'm taking a little break from the film experiment for now. Tomorrow I will ship the camera in for repair, as I would like to get its internal light meter working properly. Its internal battery functions fine, but it's likely there's an internal wiring fault that prevents the battery from powering the light meter. If it turns out fixing the light meter becomes prohibitively expensive, I'll keep using a couple iOS apps for this function instead.

πŸ₯ΎThe improving weather in the STL region has allowed me and L. to get out of the house more. Last week was a 4.5-mile hike at Rock Hollow Park that left us sore for a couple days afterwards. This week wasn't as ambitious, as we just walked around our neighborhood on Thursday 06-05, then went on a 2-2.5 mile hike at Route 66 State Park on Sunday 06-08.

❓I am on my third edit of a long-ish Doctor Who post. It's a funny thing to start writing a post with one idea in mind, only to change course by the end and argue against what I initially started writing. It's a bit of a mess, and I'd rather not publish something that appears to be my equivalent of Gene Ray's Time Cube. My goal will be to finish it no later than Wednesday 06-11.

🌿 L. and I have been growing a couple herbs outside, as we're hoping to have plants that won't die on us this summer. We've decided on sweet basil and rosemary, and as of today, they're thriving. So much so, in fact, that I used some sweet basil to make a Basil Whiskey Sour cocktail before dinner, which will be a Shrimp Pesto Pasta dish augmented by the same sweet basil plant. Next week, we'll get around to using rosemary in both a cocktail and dinner.

🏒 On Friday 06-06, I spent a half-day onsite helping out another Epic team set up a "war room" that they'll staff over the weekend. This particular team handles both pharmacy updates and home health visits, using a module that was to be updated the next day. My boss wanted our team to assist with some aspect of this war room setup, so for a couple hours I reverted back to my old desktop support role from my prior job. I didn't mind this change of pace at all, as it was nice to see some folks while working in a low-stress environment. The only real "drawback" was they were ready for lunch at 11 AM, and that's far too early for me to eat, so I returned back home to work from there for the rest of the day.
