Take 5, D.

Week(s) Notes: 2025-05-25 & 2025-06-01

Weekly Features from May 19th - June 1st:

It's a mega-update, a bumper crop of items, a cornucopia of minutiae, a whatever-you-want-to-call-it. As I was out of town for an extended Memorial Day weekend, I missed last week's update, and as a result it's rolled into this week's edition. There's a fair amount to discuss, so I'll get started now.

👾 First off, before talking about the two weeks that were, I'll get this out of my system first before I forget. After some reflection and begrudging admittance that it's over, I have signed out of Discord. I no longer have the time or the interest to follow multiple servers, and to be completely honest about it, I really haven't kept up with many of them for several months. The signing out happened on Thursday 05-29, and I consider my Discord account to be dormant. If I were to change my mind, I still have the login credentials and 2FA to sign in, but there's an Ivory-soap likelihood1 that I'm done with this particular social outlet. Both my "Where are you?" page and omg.lol landing page were updated to reflect the removal of Discord.

🌄 Memorial Day weekend lasted longer than usual, as I had plans to attend Craig Mod's stop in Evanston for his Things Become Other Things book tour. He was scheduled to be interviewed by another author of renown, Dan Sinker, who was behind both Punk Planet magazine and the @MayorEmanuel Twitter account.2 The Mod/Sinker interview happened on Tuesday 05-27, so I structured my Chicago visit to run from Saturday 05-24 to Wednesday 05-28. In between those dates, there were:

Whew! That's a lot to pack in besides the Craig Mod event, which I would call a well-spent afternoon and evening of analog discussion, interaction, and contemplation. I am very glad that I attended, and also happy that L. could join me for all of the above.

📹 I didn't need a vacation from my vacation upon my return, but my brain was not very active during my brief two-day work week. The EVC project mentioned last week is winding down, so any future issues with it will be handled as a normal trouble ticket. Next week will be a normal one at work, so I hope my brain can be ready for it.

🦾 On Friday 05-30, I graduated from shoulder rehab classes. Back in 2020, I developed a calcific deposit in the tendons connecting my right shoulder to my chest. Certain movements of my arm, particularly outward at an angle, were restricted or painful. I went through rehab assignments in 2021 that treated the condition, but in the summer of 2024, the pain and restricted movements returned. X-rays last year confirmed that the deposit had grown in size, so there was serious discussion about arthroscopic surgery. However, insurance from my old job and new job wanted rehab assignments to be conducted first in case the surgery could be avoided. I am happy that the rehab has finished, and that there hasn't been a need for surgery. If the problem were to return, I'd likely go down the surgical route, but as long as I keep up with some exercises, I should avoid that outcome.

🎞️ I brought the film camera with me on the Chicago trip, and over the last two weeks, two more rolls of film were developed. The best of the film photos were uploaded to Glass, both in its own section, and as a part of the visit to the Bahá'í Temple. I also wrote two posts about the developments (SORRY!) with shooting film, so if you don't mind that bad pun, check them out. Currently loaded in the camera is a roll of Kodak Tri-X 400 in the camera now, which is my first black-and-white 35mm film...ever? Once this roll of film is finished, I may look into servicing the light meter on the camera.

❓ The ending of this season's Doctor Who has already been spoiled for me, and all I can think of now is...🤷🏻‍♂️? I may collate my thoughts and finally write up a post, more in sadness than anger.

  1. If you are of a certain age, you may remember Ivory soap's claim of being "99.44% pure."

  2. A legitimate highlight of the Chicago trip was having Dan Sinker sign my copy of his @MayorEmanuel book, and dedicate it to me and L. as "fans of Quaxelrod." IYKYK.
