Why blog?
A mini-festo, if you will, as to why I’m blogging. A longer version--a maxi-festo?--exists, but my hope is to have enough posts to where the original requires lots of scrolling to reach on the Spiels page.
It’s 2025, and blogs are having a moment. No, seriously.
Some of the resurgence is due to frustration with various social media outlets, ranging from who owns them to how they’re run to, well, how boring they’ve become. Some of the resurgence is likely fueled by rosy-eyed nostalgia for the older web, in spite of how the older web had its share of asses, flamewars, and gatekeeping not unlike today--you’ll just have to trust me on this one. Some of the resurgence takes a bit from Pile A and a bit from Pile B. Whatever reason you want to pick, there’s no doubt that there’s a revival. Whether the revival will become like that of vinyl or cassette tapes remains to be seen.
Why am I blogging again? I want the challenge of writing my thoughts out without being too particular about the impact. I also want the challenge of WRITING again, as I have enjoyed doing so in the past, and to be quite honest, I don’t know how many future opportunities I may have to do so; may as well do it when I have most of my collective wit with me. Having an audience would be nice, but it’s not required. I went through phases of large followers on other platforms, and at this point in my life, that holds little appeal.
I may post other people’s mini-festos about blogging at a later time. For now, now you know.
